“Cyclechic was born out of frustration with the lack of stylish cycling accessories on the market. I had cycled in London for a year or so and whilst I loved the elegance of breezing though the streets on two wheels I was constantly frustrated by cycling’s overridingly geeky image. I searched high and low for items that would fit in with a modern woman’s wardrobe and that would enhance one’s cycling style rather than leave you crying in shame” says Caz Nicklin.

“I hope to keep pushing people’s perceptions of cycling and encourage more women to take to wheels by providing products and advice that make sense to the modern woman”.

So at the question: “is it possible to cycle in London and look good?” She answers:

“As a London lady who cycles and refuses to be another Lycra clad anorak… I think the answer is YES. This site offers tips and advice on how to combine safety, practicality and style to acheive true urban cycle chic.”

Lorenzo

“For the Love of God” is the collection created by Lorenzo Busato within a school project based on the study of ethnicity as opposed to a theme of breaking. The research began with the analysis of the clothing of an ancient people, the Ainu, who settled in the Japanese archipelago between the XII and the XI BC. Dresses volumes and geometric sculptures are made in parallel to the study and research of Damien Hirst’s art works.

“The collection was made following a search of my own alternative materials” says Lorenzo ” which I pass on the conceptual idea I had for creating the head. Shapes and volumes, and in particular the location of the photo sets, recall the works and concepts of Hirst. I used the garden pvc tablecloths, a polka-dot printed out the grounds, while other fabrics I have recreated the graphics in vector drawing and then printing at home on canvas with the film transfers the Zebra and Virgin Mother. Yet the masks are handmade, cardboard, through a series of folds have developed a texture of origami.

What is that? A beach ball? Or a lamp? We met Toby Sanders at his show at Tent London and The Dock, during Londons Design Fare. Toby  is Design Director of TOBYhouse, a creative interiors studio founded by himself and based in London. It develops its own range of Home Accessories, as well as offering interiors consultancies in retail, domestic, exhibitions and environmental design. We was very surprised. ‘Cause that was both a ball and a lamp. BEACH BALL LAMPSHADE is a 40cm diameter ball lamp created by Toby. It’s a real PVC Beach Ball that has been transformed, by hand, using a process he has pioneered.

The outside has the surface of an actual inflated beach ball, even the ‘blowhole’ is visible. Yet It has a ‘rock hard’ inner shell that holds it inflated, and allows us to turn it into a really playful lampshade. Each piece is hand made to order with a dispatch time of 3-4 weeks.

The outer skin is made of a real PVC beach ball. Toby had developed a process to spread a thin polyurethane shell on the inner surface of beach balls. The inner surface has a ‘blackout’ white spray finish so it is totally opaque. He applies the edge trim, and applies a made to measure lamp shade holder.

This lamp shade is made with the guidance of the British Lighting Association and adheres to their best practice guidelines. It’s easy to fit, you will not require an electrician, or particular expertise. It is fitted in the same way as any normal paper lamp shade.

Before founding TOBYhouse, Toby has directed major international retail interiors projects for global brands such as Giorgio Armani, Habitat and Mandarina Duck as well as private domestic commissions and environmental design projects. He loves the way creativity can connect different areas of design, and provide serious responses to real problems.

This is a great recycle fashion project. Black Dog Textiles’s aim is : “The idea is that we work together to make something that you particularly value. For example you might have material from a dress or suit or even a curtain which you would like to have transformed into a beautiful and usable object. You might have seen one of our bags and love one just like it only a different colour or pattern – we can do that (identical is more difficult)”.

Don’t loose more time, click on blackdogtextiles.com website to try now!

“You know those things about yourself that you’re self conscious of? Those quirks that you’re trying to hide? Those are not your weaknesses, those are your strengths.” (Terry Border)

Maybe you know Terry Border, the everyday things american poet. “The Secret Life of Everyday Things” is the title of his recent photo book : 70 pictures of his excellent wacky, strange creations. I’s a kind of second and creative life of our everyday objects world. I used to play in this magic land only when i was a child. This artist let it  still live on. I’m not surprised to read in his facebook that “Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain” is one of his favourite films…
I asked Terry to tell me something about his art and about his life. These are his words: “When I have an idea about one that interests me, I add wire to show what I am thinking. A lot of the times, this means adding wire arms and legs, to create a character. I started working with wire probably a dozen years ago. I started adding objects in 2006. At first, the objects were added as a filler material, so that the sculpture could be seen more easily. After a few months, I started playing with the meanings of the objects themselves. I probably have made a few hundred Bent Objects, but maybe 120 of them have real stories that some people find amazing. I have no other job right now, although I need one. If someone has a good paying job that they can give me, it would be welcome. I’m married, and have a 12 year old daughter. My wife and daughter give me good criticism about my work.” If you’re more curious I suggest you to follow his blog: “Bent Objects“, where he post photos of his creations, and not only…

Marble forms harmonize the body and the whiteness of the shells take out the natural colors of the human nature. Volume and structure live togheter to create an original tribal style couture.
