Gülnur Özdağlar since 2008 she has been producing cups, jewellery and home decoration accessories by recycling PET bottles: have a look at these amazing necklaces, earring, rings…

She collects, heats, cuts, melts, drill holes into and reshapes PET bottles. She thinks that the real solution is “upcycling” rather than plain recycling. Her aim is to substitute with labour and artistic value the characteristics that the material loses during transformation, thus obtaining a product of higher value.

She believes that in the future there will be a plastic material that will not proceed from the cradle to the grave, but that will return to the cradle with no loss, thus giving rise to a new plastic material, that this will “determine the way shapes are created” and that the real problem will not be recycling, and not even upcycling, but “karmic compensation”. In other words she believes that there will be a better world.

“The idea of re-using tires & inner tubes was born in 2003 when a friend asked me to make an artistic frame” says Barbara, and with the great help of Annalisa, “Bubu” for friends, they started to make an hard, great and unique job.

From the attraction by and the attention to waste and junk they decided to keep the recycling concept up and, together with the “do it by yourself” idea, they invest time and money into create artistic products, moving far away from consumer world. They decided to called their new concept and activity “Ròde “.

In 2006 was born the first dress – showed on glamour magazine 2007 – and at the same time they’ve created the first animal sculpture, mostly through re-using tires & inner tubes.
Then was born the POSTATOMIXIRCUZ Group, so Barbara and Bubu started to join art events, surreal shows creating fantastic creatures where design, art and recycled materials came alive together.

At the same time they made an amazing fashion line for everyday life: bags, dresses, shoes, hats….

“CAN DELIGHT” is the title of this amazing idea designed by Slovenian ZEK. These recycle aerosol spray cans, virtually useless, were make for the Light Guerilla competition. Each spray can is emptied and filled with a light bulb. The outer layer of the can is then paints with desired graphic. While the light looks simple, we basically can paint our very own picture to suit every occasion. Just a little creativity, and we get unlimited ways to display our light!

Amy from Progressive Pioneer gives a great way to pack your kids lunch by using reusable items: “Instead of oodles of plastic bags and disposable accoutrements, how about a cute, reusable lunch sack, sandwich bag, and a few sources for thermoses and silverware? I made mine out of an old pair of jeans so there was minimal sewing involved. In fact, the whole project is so simple you might be tempted to have your kids make their own lunch sets!” Think about the waste that can be reduced & eat healthy food also means no contamination with plastic or leach yucky chemicals into the drinks!

Our dream is to help the next generation look at “junk” with an eye to re-use. For the past three years, we’ve created and managed the Art in the Schools Bench Project funded by Cracked Pots. As a part of Art Literacy, students study assemblage art, look at pictures of junk, and create drawings of a bench. Inspired by these drawings, an artist is commissioned to create a bench for permanent display at the school.”

Tomakeyousmile wants to expand this program to give children the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the project: “We’d love to see older students involved in the making of the bench or creating other art from “junk”. “
