“The idea of re-using tires & inner tubes was born in 2003 when a friend asked me to make an artistic frame” says Barbara, and with the great help of Annalisa, “Bubu” for friends, they started to make an hard, great and unique job.

DSCF0129

From the attraction by and the attention to waste and junk they decided to keep the recycling concept up and, together with the “do it by yourself” idea, they invest time and money into create artistic products, moving far away from consumer world. They decided to called their new concept and activity “Ròde “.

In 2006 was born the first dress – showed on glamour magazine 2007 – and at the same time they’ve created the first animal sculpture, mostly through re-using tires & inner tubes.
Then was born the POSTATOMIXIRCUZ Group, so Barbara and Bubu started to join art events, surreal shows creating fantastic creatures where design, art and recycled materials came alive together.

At the same time they made an amazing fashion line for everyday life: bags, dresses, shoes, hats….

“CAN DELIGHT” is the title of this amazing idea designed by Slovenian ZEK. These recycle aerosol spray cans, virtually useless, were make for the Light Guerilla competition. Each spray can is emptied and filled with a light bulb. The outer layer of the can is then paints with desired graphic. While the light looks simple, we basically can paint our very own picture to suit every occasion. Just a little creativity, and we get unlimited ways to display our light!

Our dream is to help the next generation look at “junk” with an eye to re-use. For the past three years, we’ve created and managed the Art in the Schools Bench Project funded by Cracked Pots. As a part of Art Literacy, students study assemblage art, look at pictures of junk, and create drawings of a bench. Inspired by these drawings, an artist is commissioned to create a bench for permanent display at the school.”

Tomakeyousmile wants to expand this program to give children the opportunity to participate in all aspects of the project: “We’d love to see older students involved in the making of the bench or creating other art from “junk”. “

To make a donation or find out all the details have a look at the tomakeyousmile’s blog and enjoy!

ANDES

Recycled Into Art: “Ms. Sommerhoff is one of those artists who regard trash not as an eye sore but as a golden opportunity. One can see through the bright paint of her wall reliefs and recognize the plastic foam packing material, which forms the matrix for sculpture” writes the NY Times about Herrat.

TableTops

About her ArtWorks she says: “The materials used in my art work come out of trash bins, from roadsides and the local dump. They were used in schools (milk cartons), businesses (styrofoam and cardboard) – for packing and storage, as well as in our homes. The materials are symbolic of our time, and I am utilizing it while it is still around and before something different will take their place in the future”.

We ca only add: amazing style, great talent.

What is that? A beach ball? Or a lamp? We met Toby Sanders at his show at Tent London and The Dock, during Londons Design Fare. Toby  is Design Director of TOBYhouse, a creative interiors studio founded by himself and based in London. It develops its own range of Home Accessories, as well as offering interiors consultancies in retail, domestic, exhibitions and environmental design. We was very surprised. ‘Cause that was both a ball and a lamp. BEACH BALL LAMPSHADE is a 40cm diameter ball lamp created by Toby. It’s a real PVC Beach Ball that has been transformed, by hand, using a process he has pioneered.

The outside has the surface of an actual inflated beach ball, even the ‘blowhole’ is visible. Yet It has a ‘rock hard’ inner shell that holds it inflated, and allows us to turn it into a really playful lampshade. Each piece is hand made to order with a dispatch time of 3-4 weeks.

The outer skin is made of a real PVC beach ball. Toby had developed a process to spread a thin polyurethane shell on the inner surface of beach balls. The inner surface has a ‘blackout’ white spray finish so it is totally opaque. He applies the edge trim, and applies a made to measure lamp shade holder.

This lamp shade is made with the guidance of the British Lighting Association and adheres to their best practice guidelines. It’s easy to fit, you will not require an electrician, or particular expertise. It is fitted in the same way as any normal paper lamp shade.

Before founding TOBYhouse, Toby has directed major international retail interiors projects for global brands such as Giorgio Armani, Habitat and Mandarina Duck as well as private domestic commissions and environmental design projects. He loves the way creativity can connect different areas of design, and provide serious responses to real problems.

Discover all the fantastic design ideas of Toby in his website. You can also buy his products online!

Ridu Marco Favaretto and Chiara Rigoni, two students of Fashion Design University of Venice IUAV, have presented an interesting collection: using couture strings and other strange fabric materials they have created real couture garments.

ridu rigoni

Marble forms harmonize the body and the whiteness of the shells take out the natural colors of the human nature. Volume and structure live togheter to create an original tribal style couture.

To find out more have a look at Chiara Rigoni & Ridu Marco Favaretto blogs.

And now start to use window rapes-strings and create your own style. Then send photos and video at refashinoso@shicon.com

Be unique in recycling fashion. Thanks guys, july.
